Wolfburn say - 'Our traditional Christmas bottle has been long awaited. This years festive whisky has been made from a very lightly peated spirit drawn from warehouse No.2. Matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and second fill quarter casks, and a shade over seven years old, this years Christmas bottle will make the perfect gift for any discerning whisky lover.'

My tasting notes. 📋

Nose. Almond Cream, Grape, Nuts, Lime and Ginger.
Palate. Cloves, Fudge, Earth, Dark Choc, Vanilla and Coconut.
Finish. Cookie Dough, Herbs, Malt, Honey and Tea Leaves.

First, a tempting almond gave off a smooth, nutty, and silky cream-like scent. A white grape note next that was pleasant but musty later, added sweet and green accents. Then, a slight hint of nuts added another element to the Highland distilled whisky. Also on the nose, limes provided some brightness and sweetness. A sharp but fading ginger note was also present here.

A strong clove provided a little spice, which gave the taste buds a quick warming sensation. However, it was only a small portion of the flavour, and it was more musty and earthy than smoky and ashy. Fudge tasted buttery and sweet. There was also a very faint peat note that again was earthy. After that, the whisky received a much-appreciated indulgence and thickened body from a rich dark chocolate flavour. Vanilla and coconut notes that were surly influenced by the casks used were now obvious and prevalent.

Warm cookie dough flavours pushed through on the finish with a delightful desert-like flavour. Some herbs, such as sage and fennel, particularly piqued my interest too. More finesse in the form of sweet malt flavours, with a flavour similar to the inside of a Malteser. A thick and oozy honey offered a strong but silky, almost fragrant flavour. Finally, an unusual but highly memorable tea leaf note resulted in an intriguing and distinctive tea leaf flavour.

My opinion. 🗣️ - I always enjoy Wolfburn's seasonal releases because they're not only exciting but also delicious, and this one is no exception for its price of £59.99 per 70cl bottle. So, if you want to give it a shot or even give it to a loved one this Christmas, you and them will be in for a treat.
