Join the Legacy: Lochlea Unveils Distinctive Whisky Ownership Initiative
This spring, Lochlea Distillery in Ayrshire is - for the first time - opening up the rare and unique opportunity for the public to own their very own cask of Lochlea spirit.
This will be the first time that the distillery has gone public with its Private Cask Programme. It has previously only ever been offered to private customers who joined their waiting list from 2018 onwards.
The Lowland Single Estate distillery is offering a very special experience for those looking to buy one of Lochlea’s sought-after casks – with all stages of the sale being done directly between the distillery team and the cask owner(s).
From the moment of purchase, owners can make the most of and enjoy their personal whisky journey, visiting their cask at the distillery (that isn’t currently open to the public), attending a dedicated Cask Owner’s Day, sampling their liquid as it goes from spirit to single malt whisky and being a part of the Lochlea family and award-winning brand’s journey from an early stage.
Two types of casks are available for consumers to choose from: first-fill Bourbon Barrels and first-fill Oloroso Sherry Hogsheads – depending on their preferred flavour profile. All casks are kept under bond at the distillery for at least 10 years, after which it can then either be stored for longer, bottled under the customer’s own personal label or sold back to the distillery as desired.

Aside from offering whisky enthusiasts the chance for cask purchase, Lochlea has an award-winning range of whiskies available throughout the year, leading with the flagship: Our Barley. This unpeated single malt has been matured in a combination of three different casks: Bourbon, Oloroso and STR casks, all of which add depths of flavour to the fruity, biscuity spirit.
In addition to Our Barley, Lochlea’s Seasonal release whiskies are available throughout the year to tie in with the seasons on the farm: Ploughing (March), Sowing (April), Harvest (August) and Fallow (November), whilst limited edition annual batches of Cask Strength are released early summer, for those looking for whisky at a higher ABV.
