Leading distiller, blender, and bottler, Douglas Laing & Co, today announce the release of the second Sherry Cask Edition of their Campbeltown Malt Scotch whisky brand, The Gauldrons.

This new release follows in the footsteps of the first Sherry Cask Edition, which was the first ever Limited Edition release from The Gauldrons, launching back in April of 2022.

The Gauldrons brand joined Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts in 2017, completing the range of Scotch Whisky regions with the final addition of Campbeltown. This edition joins the existing core bottling and is strictly limited to 5,580 bottles.

The Gauldrons, inspired by the eponymous dark sandy coves on Campbeltown’s west shores, literally means “bay of storms”. It was here that King Robert the Bruce, having been defeated by his enemies, was inspired whilst watching a spider building its web with great patience but great difficulty, to try, try and try again. The spider has become synonymous with The Gauldrons’ core expression, featuring again in this new limited edition.

Packaged in a sleek black bottle, and featuring dark and mysterious grey and red colourways, highlighting the Sherry cask maturation, The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Edition is brought to life in a luxury gift tube featuring The Gauldrons’ signature apothecary style label completing the product’s premium packaging.

This release is a marriage of the finest Single Cask Single Malts only from the Campbeltown region, and having enjoyed a lengthy finishing period in Spanish Sherry Casks contains “perfect balance, with an explosion of rich, dark fruits and spice alongside the salty and maritime notes Campbeltown is famed for.”

Commenting on the new release, Emma Reid, The Gauldrons’ Brand Manager, said: “We are delighted to launch the second expression of The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish. The Gauldrons brand celebrates Campbeltown’s illustrious history as a Whisky-making region and this expression of The Gauldrons cements Douglas Laing’s commitment to showcasing the very best of Campbeltown. Building on the success of last year’s release, this edition remains classically Campbeltown with a maritime sweetness balanced by rich Sherry notes of spice and dark fruits. We are looking forward to sharing it with Whisky fans across the world.”

The Gauldrons Sherry Cask Finish will be available from specialist retailers and online from May 2023. It is expected to retail at £65.00 / €74.00

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Maritime with sea air, a touch of manuka honey and macerated fruits.

Palate: An explosion of rich, dark fruits leading to warm spices - cinnamon and cloves.

Finish: A distinctly spicy finish with Sherried sweetness, stone fruits, and more honey.
